Flooring, Toolbox, and Safety Bars

This week we made a huge leap in what we accomplished. First we installed latches onto the tailgate of the trailer and installed locks on them. Next we welded chain to the tailgate and trailer that will act to control the amount of material that the trailer will put out. After we created safety bars with steel pipe that rotate on a hinge and welded them to the frame of the trailer where they can be used to support the weight of the trailer when elevated. We also were able to install hinges and a handle onto the tool box and cut a notch out for the hydraulic control to be let out of the box with the lid down.

When we were done with that, we started working on the fenders of the trailer. We had to first align the trailer where we wanted them and made sure they were level and looked correctly. Then we took angle iron and dispersed them on the fenders which allowed us to be able to walk on the fenders when we finished welding the fenders to the frame of the dump bed. After that we had only had the flooring for the trailer to complete. We took large pieces of 14 gauge wire and cut them to size . We then welded them into place very carefully and made sure they were all flat in the trailer. Once we were done with all of that we decided to test our trailer and took it on a short drive to make sure everything was running correctly and we are very excited to announce that it is!

Next week we plan to have the trailer painted and when that is complete the hydraulic lines can be installed and the electrical components will be put into place. We are basically done with the trailer, we just need to have it painted and finish the electrical. But we are extremely close to finish and the hard part is now over.

What we need to work on is trying to communicate better. We had some problems communicating with out mentor and the man who will be painting our trailer. We worked through the situations, but we struggled a lot and it would have been easier to do it right the first time.

What we did well this week was dedicate a lot of time to this project. We spent multiple days this week so we would be able to finish quickly and now we are very close to being done. We also took the time to fix any corrections to the trailer we needed to and paid very close attention to the detail of our work. Our hard work this week will be the reason for finishing this project on time and without it we would not have.
