What we were able to accomplish this week was installing the hinge onto the trailer frame. This was accomplished by countless cuts and measurements to create the hinge. This included steel plate supports, open steel pipe, solid steel pipe, and 5 inch “C” channel that were all assembled together to construct the hinge. We used a saw, a plasma cutter, and a grinding wheel to make all of these parts fit together. We were also able to accomplish building and installing bumper plates on the backside of the trailer that work to stop the dump bed frame from going too high into the air. We accomplished all this with hopes of finishing the trailer before it is too late.
Next we plan to place the dump bed frame onto the trailer frame and install the hinge onto that frame as well making it completely functional. We also have to install the hydraulics, construct the side paneling, cut and weld in the bed sheet metal, install the electrical components and paint the trailer. In the next week plan to install the bed frame and start building the side panels.
What we did well this week was accomplishing what we set out to do. We made a plan to complete this step this week and were able to do it. We also made sure our mentor was made aware of our plans on when and what we are doing in the following weeks to complete our project. Since he owns the shop we work in it is very necessary for us to let him know of our plans. We did a good job at prioritizing and planning this week for the weeks ahead.
What we need to work on in the following weeks is trying to get even more done. Sooner than we know it the project will be due and we need to complete this project while we still can. So in future weeks we need to work on getting ahead of the game as well as fundraising for the project that we have failed to do up to this point.
