This week we have taken our biggest leap in the right direction. We have officially started our project and are now going to get the ball rolling. What we accomplished this week is that we picked up all the metal that we will need for the project. We searched for a while to find the best price, and we have now purchased almost all of our materials for the project with just a few more pieces like tires, the hydraulic kit, and the electrical parts that we still need to obtain. We still need to buy more materials, but the majority of our parts have been bought.
We bought the steel from Steel Supply Houston at the price of $1,710. We then took it to our mentors shop in Magnolia the same day so that we can start our project as soon as possible. Our next plan is to cut all the materials down to size for the project. This will let us set the materials out and put them together like puzzle pieces. We still have a lot of work ahead of putting everything together, and we are trying to make it as easy for ourselves as possible. We are extremely excited for this project and are committed to finishing it.
What we did well this week was communicating on how and when we were going to get our parts. We planned to borrow a trailer and pull it with one of trucks to get the materials. We searched for the best price we could find and we got it. We feel very successful in this and we are proud of what we accomplished.
What we could have done better was trying to ask for aid on the project. We shared our project with the Steel Supply shop but never really up front asked them for help, and maybe they would have helped sponsor us if we had done that. We could’ve worked harder to find a sponsor to help us out, but we looked for prices instead of who could help us. This project is going to be strenuous and we are going to need a lot of help. So we need to get better at reaching out for help and guidance as we go forward on this project.
