What we were able to accomplish this week was cutting the most amount of materials we could with the time we have so that we are able to move faster in finishing this project. What we started with this week was cutting bumper plate to put on the trailer frame so that a hinge can be mounted to let the dump bed frame move. We used a plasma cutter to cut the unique shape of the bumper plate and grinded them flat after. Next we cut the materials for the hinge. This included solid steel pipe and steel pipe that will act as the moving parts of the hinge. We then moved on to something else on the trailer besides the hinge and cut the materials that make up the side panels of the trailer. We cut the vertical and horizontal braces of the dump bed side panels that included three inch C channel, solid steel pipe, and square tubing. These will act as strong support so the bed material is welded onto something that will support the weight of the material put into the trailer.
Once we were done with the cutting of the material, we sat down with our mentor and made a list of the things we will have to do in order to complete the trailer in time. We have a very strict plan and if we do not stick to it we will not finish our project in time. But with the plan we have now we should be able to finish on time and complete our objective of this project.
In the following weeks we plan to take all the cut materials we cut this week and weld them onto to the trailer. After that we will cut the side panels for our trailer, weld them in place, and drill the whole into both frame so that we can attach the two together. Following this we will attach the dump bed frame to the trailer frame, install the hydraulic components, and put in the electric parts of the trailer.
What we did well this week was planning for the future. We cut a lot of the materials we will need for working on the trailer in the future that will go a long way on time management and efficiency. Not only did we do that, but we also sat down with our mentor who helped us plan out our work schedule so that we could complete our project in time. So we did a very good job in setting ourselves up for success.
What we need to work on is getting more done. We are run into something new that we have to do for the project and it put us back some. We can not keep running into surprises and having to rush to get things done. But with the scheduling we did with our mentor we should improve in this area. We have a long way to go but if we stay focus and just stick to the plan we will be successful in completing this project.
