Unfortunately this week, our mentor was still not back in his shop so we had no way of working on the physical aspect of the project. We had planned on finishing the welding on the trailer frame and connect the tongue of the trailer to the frame with the help of our mentor. But his absence made it impossible to do so. So instead of doing what we had planned we decided to work on our budget aspect of the project and find people who could help support our project financially.
What we did this week was all about obtaining money. So we downloaded our Grant Proposal into a pdf document and read over it one final time to look for grammatical errors. Once accomplished, we made a list of potential donors who would be most likely to help us pay for this project. This list included a number of family members and family friends on both partner's sides. We sent each one an email explaining that we were taking part in a Senior Capstone Project at Stratford High School and asked if they could help donate to support us in completing the project. We attached the full grant proposal to our project and made sure it was clear what we were doing for the project and what it meant as a learning experience for us. We also are in the procedure of making a Go Fund Me account so that anyone wanting to support us has somewhere to donate the money and it makes it easier on us on how to keep the money.
What we did well this week was finding something that would improve our project while we can not work on the project physically. Due to the schedule of our mentor we were not able to accomplish the tasks we had set for ourselves. But instead of sitting around and doing nothing we decided to use our brains to come up with an idea that would significantly impact our project. The budget for the project is a big concern. It costs a lot of money to build a trailer and none of the parts come cheap. So finding a way to help minimize that impact helps our project tremendously and lets us accomplish our goal of completing the project.
What we need to improve on is talking with our mentor and finding out what we can do when he is not there. We need to stress the time constraints on this project and explain to him that we have to have a weekly check up with this project to insure we are moving forward. We need to arrange a way for us to be able to physically work on the project when he is not there. Whether that means we are not able to weld on the trailer or only be allowed to cut materials. Either way we need to accomplish something that improves our project. This is all determined by talking with our mentor and striking up a deal with him. The good thing is that in two weeks our school’s football season is over and both of us will have more opportunities to work on the project which will help with scheduling around our mentor. We will have a big gap in our own schedules to work on this project and are both very excited for what is in store for our project. And once football is over we should start flying through the project.
