This week we started on the second half of the trailer. But first we spent time completing the first half of the trailer. We welded up all the necessary seams on the trailer to make it as strong as possible. We double checked every part of the trailer to make sure the welds looked to be holding and could support the weight we are trying to guarantee. After welding the trailer frame, we started to work on the dump bed frame by cutting the frame pieces and taking them together. This marked the start of the second half of our project and we are aiming to complete the second frame in the next coming weeks.
What we have done so far is build the trailer frame and attach the axles and tires. After cutting all the necessary material we welded the frame together, attached the axles and jack, and made the trailer be able to stand on its own by attaching tires. We accomplished a lot of the trailer to this point, but we still have a long way to go.
What we have left to do is complete the dump bed frame, attaching the vertical sides, weld a sheet of metal to act as the bed on top of the bed frame, attach the hydraulic components, and attach the electrical components.
What we did well this week was double checking our work. When it comes to something as dangerous as pulling a trailer at full speed on the highway, safety has to be taken into question very seriously. So in order to insure safety we went back over all of our welds and redid the ones we did not see to our standard. Also, we got started on the second half of the trailer which is a big step in the right direction of this project.
What we need to work on is finding more time to work on the project. We might not know it but the end date of the project is coming sooner than we think. So in order to complete the project in time we need to work on the trailer more than usual. We are on a steady pace, but we need to kick it in overdrive if we want to complete this project in time.
