This week we have continued our research into places to get the materials (steel, axles, and hitch accessories) by talking to Triple S steel out of Houston. As it turns out the owner of the shop we are going to work out of in Magnolia (Jim Blackburn) has a good connection with them and said they could be another good resource for us. He also has a company that he has a good connection with that carries all kinds of axles and suspension parts that we will use. We have both done well with continuing to research the prices and materials we will need, but both are very busy with Varsity football at Stratford High School. We are continuing to work out our schedule to figure out when the best time to start the next phase.
We are in the process of obtaining the materials (at least the steel and hitch assembly) in the coming weeks and taking it to Magnolia to cut it into the lengths we need. Then we will weld the main trailer frame with the support bracing, trailer hitch assembly, and then the axles and suspension will go on to make it mobile.
What's left to do as of now is for us to go to the two steel yards we have sourced from (Brookshire Steel and Triple S Houston) and get the best price we can. Then we will buy the materials and load it onto a borrowed utility trailer and take the materials to Magnolia, where our mentor's shop is located, to begin the construction phase.
What we accomplished this week is keeping up with the promise of involving our project with a local Boy Scout troop. To get this accomplished we made a PowerPoint that will enable us to connect with the Boy Scouts and present our plan. Being an active member of the local Boy Scout troop, Tim Snapp will present this presentation to the troop leader and see if we can come to an agreement so we uphold our promise. We are very excited to have an impact on the community when times get tough.
